History Of Online Education

Learning through distance education is prevalent in world from the late 1800s. Although, Internet provided us with many opportunities in the form of music and games etc. the concept of e-learning is by far the best gift that it has given to us humans. Learning through Internet has made web world really special. Internet training and online education has always been a best opportunity for many people to learn, along with being engaged in their family duties.

The progress in the implementation of online education began in early 80s when educational institutions started hiring well skilled instructors to teach their students. The instructors hired were really great at their work, training was good because students were able to interact with each other and visualize the things they learnt. But, there was a serious drawback in this field due to a huge void in between the classes. As a result, students lost concentration and were not able to get a grasp on the subject in hand.

With the expansion of computer industry, e-training was at its rage. Multimedia became popular in next ten years. PowerPoint was used by many companies for creating visually enhanced presentations. Every technology was at its best by this time. Other multimedia and video games were raising their heads, technology was spreading its roots, and online education was not too far to achieve.

In the mid 1990's, when multimedia and the internet were being taken to a new level of advancement, the first online training program came to existence. Due to lack of good trainers, the companies which provided e-learning focused mainly on business. Online education at that point of time was very slow, due to lack of good technology, the whole course was totally text based, and the pictures provided were neither of good quality nor were very clear. No matter, as it was just the beginning of a new revolution in education system.

By the end of 90s and the beginning of the new millennium, an entirely new technology prevailed. Online Education was finally implemented at various colleges and institutes. Online education made a splash with fast web servers, fast online video access and good streaming media. Students were then able to get education while being at their homes easily. They were able to balance their studies along with their family responsibilities.

As of now, online education has flourished in almost every area of education. It has done well and the same is expected in the future. Special tutors are hired just to teach students online. They are specially trained for teaching video lessons. Not only educational institutions but companies are also implementing such online education programs to train their respective trainees. The trainees get advantage as they can be trained at any time of the day. Gone are the days to do overtime at the office just to finish the work or learn something new, now one can learn anything, at any time, at his convenience in his own choice of venue. Learning is now in our fingertips, just on one click.
